Rob before he needed to leave, and then it was too late. Now

he was facing the same choice, only this time with the

knowledge of where this audition would lead.

An image rose in his mind: Rob with Ben’s arm around

him, standing silhouetted against the night sky as a falling

star blazed overhead. He could hear his own words echoing

in his ears. I wish I had another chance. I wish he was mine.

“Sorry, Jerry, I have plans for the night, and I can’t

change them for anything,” Anthony said, and then he held

the phone away from his ear as his agent began to curse and

yell at him. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Bye!”

Anthony hung up the phone, feeling no remorse. The

universe had seen fit to grant his wish and give him the

chance he wanted, and he wasn’t about to waste it. Picking

up his towel, he headed off toward the shower. He knew

there was no guarantee that he would win Rob’s heart, and

now he had no idea what would happen to his career, but he

felt better than he had in years. He had hope, and that was

better than any film role in the world.
